About Specter

Specter is a privacy-first, self-custody Bitcoin wallet for iOS. It stores your private keys locally on your device, collects zero personal data, and is fully open source so anyone can verify its security.

Yes. Specter is completely free to download and use. There are no subscription fees, premium tiers, or in-app purchases. The only costs you incur are Bitcoin network fees when sending transactions.

No. Specter is a Bitcoin-only wallet. We focus exclusively on Bitcoin to deliver the highest level of security, performance, and user experience without the complexity of supporting multiple chains.

Yes. The entire Specter codebase is publicly available for inspection. Anyone can audit, review, or contribute to the source code. We believe transparency is the foundation of trust in a self-custody wallet.

Security & Privacy

Protecting your Bitcoin

Your private keys and recovery phrase are stored exclusively on your device, encrypted with hardware-backed security. They are never transmitted to our servers, any cloud service, or any third party.

As long as you have your recovery phrase (12 or 24 words), you can restore your wallet on any compatible Bitcoin wallet application. Without the recovery phrase, your funds cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.

No. Specter collects zero personal data during normal use. We do not track usage, record IP addresses, or embed any analytics or advertising SDKs. Your wallet activity is entirely private.

No. Specter is a non-custodial wallet, which means we never have access to or control over your Bitcoin. Only you, the keyholder, can authorize transactions. We cannot freeze, restrict, or move your funds under any circumstances.

Wallet & Transactions

Using Specter

Open Specter, tap 'Create Wallet', and the app will generate a new recovery phrase. Write down your 12 or 24 words on paper and store them in a safe, offline location. Never share your recovery phrase with anyone.

Yes. You can import a wallet using a BIP-39 recovery phrase (12 or 24 words) or a raw private key. Your imported wallet will appear with its full balance and transaction history.

A multisig (multi-signature) wallet requires multiple private keys to authorize a transaction. For example, a 2-of-3 multisig requires any 2 out of 3 designated keys to sign. This provides an extra layer of security for larger holdings or shared wallets.

Tap the send button, enter or scan the recipient's Bitcoin address, specify the amount, choose your fee rate, and confirm. You can also use coin control to select specific UTXOs for the transaction.

Coin control lets you manually select which specific UTXOs (unspent transaction outputs) to include in a transaction. This is useful for privacy optimization, fee management, and avoiding mixing outputs from different sources.

Yes. Specter supports BTC, mBTC (millibits), and satoshis (sats). You can switch between denominations at any time in the app settings to match your preferred way of thinking about bitcoin value.

Security reminder

The Specter team will never ask for your recovery phrase, private keys, or passwords. If anyone claiming to be from Specter requests this information, it is a scam.

  • Never share your 12 or 24 word recovery phrase
  • Never enter your keys on any website
  • Only download Specter from the official App Store
