Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 7, 2026
Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Specter Wallet (“Specter,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our mobile application and any related support channels (collectively, the “Service”).
Specter is a privacy-first, trust-minimized Bitcoin wallet built around self-custody and local-only data storage. The application is pseudonymous by design: your private keys never leave your device, all sensitive wallet data is stored locally, and our open-source codebase can be independently verified by anyone. We do not require personal information to use the wallet, we do not build user profiles, and we do not collect data during normal operation.
Our goal is straightforward: give you the tools to manage your own Bitcoin while collecting as little information as technically possible.
Who We Are
Specter Wallet is developed and operated by:

How Specter Works
Understanding our architecture is key to understanding our privacy posture. Specter is a self-custody, non-custodial wallet. That means:
- Your keys stay on your device. Your recovery phrase (seed phrase) and private keys are generated and stored exclusively on your device. They are never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
- We never hold your Bitcoin. Specter does not have custody of, access to, or control over your funds at any time.
- No server-side storage. We do not operate servers that store your wallet data, transaction history, balances, or personal information. All of that lives locally on your device.
- No accounts, no registration. You can start using Specter without creating an account, providing an email address, or signing in. The wallet is pseudonymous from the moment you open it.
- No recovery by us. If you lose your recovery phrase, we cannot restore your wallet. There is no backdoor and no server-side recovery mechanism.
Information We Do Not Collect
During normal use of the Specter application, we do not collect, store, or process any of the following:
- Names, government-issued identification, physical addresses, or phone numbers
- Email addresses (unless you contact support)
- Recovery phrases (seed phrases) or private keys
- Wallet addresses or public keys
- Transaction history or wallet balances
- IP addresses or device identifiers
- Advertising identifiers, tracking cookies, or marketing profiles
- Location data (GPS, Wi-Fi, or cell tower)
- Contacts, photos, or other device content
- Usage analytics, session recordings, or behavioral telemetry
We do not embed third-party analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or crash-reporting services that would transmit your data to external parties.
When We May Receive Information
The only scenario in which we receive personal information is when you voluntarily contact us for support. If you send an email to support@getspecter.io, we may receive:
- Your email address
- The content of your message
- Any attachments you choose to include, such as screenshots
This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry and provide support. We do not use support communications for marketing, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to resolving your request.
Important: Never share your recovery phrase or private keys with anyone, including our support team. We will never ask for them.
Device Permissions
Specter may request access to certain device features. All processing occurs locally on your device, and no data from these permissions is transmitted externally.
- Biometric Authentication — If you enable Face ID or fingerprint unlock, your device's operating system handles the biometric check entirely on-device. Specter never receives, processes, or stores your biometric data.
- Camera (QR Code Scanning) — Used to read Bitcoin addresses and payment requests from QR codes. Scanning is performed locally. No image data is captured, stored, or transmitted.
- Internet Access — Required to communicate with the Bitcoin network for broadcasting transactions and retrieving network information. Specter connects to the Bitcoin network directly or through providers you select, but does not route traffic through proprietary servers operated by Specter.
None of these permissions are used for advertising, analytics, user profiling, or tracking of any kind.
Bitcoin Network Transparency
Bitcoin operates on a public, decentralized ledger (the blockchain). When you send or receive Bitcoin, certain information becomes part of the public record:
- Transaction amounts, sender and recipient addresses, and timestamps are publicly visible on the blockchain.
- Bitcoin transactions are generally irreversible once confirmed. You are solely responsible for verifying addresses and amounts before broadcasting a transaction.
- Specter is pseudonymous by design and does not associate your real-world identity with your Bitcoin addresses. However, blockchain analysis by third parties may potentially link addresses to identities through external means outside our control.
This on-chain transparency is a property of the Bitcoin network itself and is not controlled, managed, or influenced by Specter.
No Selling or Sharing of Information
- We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to anyone, for any reason.
- We do not share personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing platforms.
- We do not engage in behavioral advertising or cross-app tracking.
- The only circumstances under which we would disclose information are: (a) to respond to support requests you initiate, or (b) when required to comply with a valid, enforceable legal obligation. Even in the latter case, we can only provide information we actually possess, which under normal circumstances is limited to support correspondence you voluntarily sent to us.
Data Storage and Retention
- Application data: All wallet data, including keys, addresses, transaction history, and settings, is stored exclusively on your device. We have no server-side copies and no mechanism to access this data remotely.
- Support communications: If you contact us for support, your emails are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your inquiry and maintain a brief support record. They are then deleted or anonymized when no longer needed.
- Deletion: You can delete all local wallet data at any time by uninstalling the application from your device. If you wish to have support correspondence deleted, contact us and we will process your request promptly.
Children's Privacy
Specter Wallet is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Specter does not collect personal data during normal operation, the risk of inadvertent collection is minimal. However, if you believe a child has provided us with personal information through a support channel, please contact us at support@getspecter.io and we will delete it promptly.
Open-Source Verification
Specter is open-source software. Our codebase is publicly available for anyone to inspect, audit, and verify. We believe that transparency through open source is the strongest foundation for trust in a self-custody wallet. You do not need to take our word for the privacy practices described in this policy — you can confirm them yourself by reviewing the source code.
Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we do, we will publish the revised policy and update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising under or in connection with this policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts located in Mandalay, Myanmar.
